Anne has developed womanly curves

Anne was able to get into her skirt and blouse, for she hadn't grown any taller, but they hugged her body in ways they hadn't before and made her quite uncomfortable. She'd seen women wearing these sorts of things before and while they did look quite glamorous, in dresses of a proper cut, Anne could never imagine dressing herself quite so provocatively. Still, she hadn't really any choice in the matter until she went up to the compound to get some new clothes, so she did just that.

She felt she did not go unnoticed on her way there, though perhaps that was just her overactive imagination; in actual fact, most of the people she passed on her way were quite young, like Ray and Constable Fraser and Horatio had been. She did wonder in passing who they might be, and whether she knew them or not, but she kept her goal firmly in mind. Once she was properly dressed again, then she could concern herself with the other matters at hand.

Ray had been on his way to the compound for breakfast and also some supplies. Office supplies too which was odd but he figured if Macgyver could stop a bomb with a hockey ticket, maybe a real person could make a fishhook with a paperclip. It was worth a try anyway.

He paused briefly when he noticed how there seemed to be more kids today than he had ever seen before. Had an orphanage just crash-landed on the beach or something?

That was when he noticed-- He didn't want to leap to any conclusions. Hell, the world had plenty of red-haired women but either this was one of those clones like Stanley had or Anne had grown up overnight.

He had never thought of Anne in anything outside of brotherly terms but she had totally gotten much hotter if option 2 was what was going on here. Seemed possible. Island had frickin' dinosaurs, for crying outloud. Not to mention the fact that Ray was pretty sure he'd gone hunting for Cthulu with Brennan and he had definitely spent the better part of a weekend watering people in comas.

Only one way to find out for sure though. Vecchio walked over to the familiar strange woman --since they were heading in the same direction anyway-- and waved. "Hello."

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, Ray!" cried Anne, half in relief and half in delight. It was all she could do to resist throwing her arms around him. "Oh, Ray, you look just exactly as you should, I'm so glad. I know that I don't, though I haven't any idea quite what I look like yet, and the other Ray has become a child again, and oh, it's all so very strange!"

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not a clone. Definitely his Anne. He hugged her back and smiled reassuringly. "Hey, whoa, slow down. The island's just weird sometimes on certain weekends."

Ugh, Stanley was one of the children of the damned? He was probably running around with his underwear on his head if not entirely naked. Great. Ray would worry about that later.

"As for how you look, you look fine. A little older but a lot like yourself." She looked very pretty too but he wasn't exactly comfortable saying so. Maybe it was because she was Canadian.

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Horatio told me that I looked mature," Anne confessed to him. "I didn't know if he meant mature as in womanly, or mature in the sense people use when a woman is long past her prime. But he'd become a young child as well so I imagine that his perspective may not have been entirely objective."

Anne felt her face again, as though that would tell her what she now looked like; she already well knew the changes that the island had wrought in the rest of her body.

"Oh Ray, I desperately need to find some new clothing. Not as desperately as the other Ray, of course, for at least I have something that I can wear, but this is no longer decent at all."

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
Horatio was gayer than most gay things so Ray wasn't surprised that Horatio hadn't noticed that Anne was a babe now. Maybe Fraser had chimed in about her looking quite tolerable in spite of the weather. That would have made any woman feel like a nutty old spinster.

As far as clothes went, seeing as Anne was close to falling out of what she was wearing... Yeah. He gently patted her shoulder. Ray wasn't checking her out because she was like a sister but yeah. New clothes. Stat.

"It'll be okay. There's got to be something in the laundry room. I'll go with you." Turnbull's paperclips weren't going anywhere.

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Anne had longed for this sort of body once -- though she was still on the skinny side, and not at all like Diana -- but she hadn't imagined it coming upon her overnight. At sixteen she had a woman's body, grown to her full height and capable of childbearing, but she now knew that there were changes to come yet.

"I imagine there are a great many people who are going to be looking for new clothes today," said Anne, hurrying along now with Ray at her side. "I do hope we've either beaten the rush, or missed it entirely."

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
If there was a rush, maybe Ray could lightly elbow some of the children of the corn out of the way when Anne wasn't looking.

"Well, most of them are little now, right? They might not be in any particular hurry."

Kids never seemed to like clothes or baths for that matter. Until the magical day when they did and then suddenly you were always buying them clothes and there was a constant war for use of the bathroom. Go figure.

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
"The other Ray did seem quite content to run around without a stitch of clothing," she told him confidentially. "Thank goodness for Constable Fraser, he was sensible even as an eight-year-old."

It seemed there would be no struggle to find herself some decent clothing, or at least, no struggle with any other person. Anne had been involved in enough struggles of will with the clothing box that she knew her task might not be an easy one regardless.

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ray rolled his eyes and snorted. And then there was the occasional kid who never grew up. Geez. "Stanley's... You know, I'm not sure what raised him but they could have done a better job."

He held the door to the compound open for Anne once they got there. "Hopefully the weekend will pass by relatively quickly, huh?"

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
"Do you really think this is just for the weekend, Ray?" she said hopefully. "I know that when people were in their deep sleeps, it lasted only a few days, but I've never had anything strange happen to me personally before, except of course for arriving here in the first place. I can't help but worry that perhaps I'll be this way forever now, which is not a terrible thing because one day I would become this way regardless, I think, but it's all happening too soon."

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
"It is totally only for this weekend," Ray assured her. If it was for longer than this weekend, he was moving to the far side of the island where either Cthulu would eat him or the dinosaurs would. ...Huh. Okay, so maybe he'd just become a hermit.

Either way, Vecchio would have to move. He didn't think he really wanted to be responsible for taking care of Benny and Kowalski while they grew up. Again.

"Did anything happen to Diefenbaker?"

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh!" said Anne, her hand going to her mouth as she remembered. "Oh, Diefenbaker is just a little puppy! And he can hear! Oh, it was the most astonishing thing, you can't imagine the look on Constable Fraser's face. I've never seen him look quite so emotional; perhaps being a little boy again makes it easier for it to all come out."

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ray looked away from a moment, imagining how cute and sad that would have been. He also knew if this was a weekend thing that come Monday Dief wouldn't be able to hear.

But Vecchio was a guy. He was not moved by this. He was a rock. Yeah right. Maybe it was okay though. Benny was like his brother and Dief was his brother's wolf. He was allowed to have an emotional attachment to Diefenbaker since he had one to the Mountie. He was allowed to be sad and the tiniest bit pissed off that the island was messing with them yet again.

He swallowed hard and lead the way down to the laundry room. "Uh, that's...cool. I'll have to find them later."

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yes," agreed Anne, "oh I'm sure they would be very happy to see you. Only you'll have to be very sure to be not too hard on them for what's happened; they're only little boys after all and you don't want to make them cry. Not that I think you would be mean, of course! But I've seen you and the other Ray together and I know your tendency to tease, don't try to deny it."

Anne knelt down next to the clothing as soon as she spotted it, and began to try to find something that would be appropriate for her to wear, for what she hoped would only be the next couple of days.

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Ray snorted but it was true so he didn't bother denying it. He couldn't really help it when he was about Kowalski.

The reason he treated Benny different and teased him considerably less was Fraser took everything personally. It wasn't fun, it was mean. Same with Billy. But Kowalski seemed to get it and usually was cruel right back.

"I'll be nice and I won't make them cry." It would be too easy if they were little. "This isn't Stanley's fault, anyway."

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not anyone's fault," said Anne. "At least, as far as I know it isn't, and I can't imagine how one person might cause something like this." Though of course, Ray hadn't been serious about that, but she still felt it warranted pointing out.

She found a blouse of a rather awful shade of red and held it up. It looked as thought it would fit properly, but she wasn't at all sure she wanted to wear it.

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"We can all blame the island," he suggested. "I don't think that will hurt its feelings all that much."

Ray made a face when she held up the red blouse. "No way. There's gotta be something else in there."

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe the island does have its feelings hurt, and that's why it keeps doing things like this," suggested Anne, though trying to imagine an island as having feelings like a living thing might have been a bit much.

She was happy to discard the red blouse and dig a little deeper. Surely there would be something; perhaps Ray would have more luck.

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's possible. Or it just has a weird sense of humor." Somehow that seemed more likely. The island wasn't mean or cruel so much as strange. No one had died because of it although people seemed to disappear. Hm. Strange and creepy then.

Ray crouched down and dug through the box until he pulled out a pale blue blouse. It was less hideous than the red one. "How about this?"

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Anne considered the blouse very seriously. It was a little lower cut than she normally wore, but it was certainly less revealing that what she was currently wearing, which felt like it was straining at the seams.

"I think that will do nicely," she said finally, and took it from him with a grateful smile. "Now for a new skirt, or trousers if that's all we manage to find. I'm certainly not particular, today."

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Cool. We'll see what I can find." Ray sort of wished there was a closet somewhere instead of a box. It would have been easier to sort through everything. Eventually he held up a biege pair of pants and a black skirt.

"Do either of these work?"

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
The beige pants struck Anne as truly unflattering, but the skirt was knee-length. Of the two, Anne though the skirt the much better choice regardless, and took it from him gratefully. There was another issue, but Anne wasn't at all sure how to bring it up with Ray without one of them becoming embarrassed or awkward. She supposed if it came down to it, she could survive for a few days without underclothes, but she'd just as soon not.

"Um..." she said, and found herself in one of those rare occasions where she was at a loss for words.

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ray wondered what else she could possibly need and then suddenly it occured to him. Agh! Why me? He moved away from the box and sighed, rubbing his temples. He couldn't wait for Anne to go back to being young and sisterly.

"Maybe you ought to go back to looking?"

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps that would be best," agreed Anne, with a sigh of relief. She wasn't even sure how she would know if what she found would fit her new proportions. All she knew for certain was that what she currently possessed had been too restrictive to even put on that morning.

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ray moved away to give her some privacy to look for... Whatever. He didn't want to think about it. He examined the washer and dryer units with intense interest. Weird-ass island. "So. Uh. Have you had breakfast?"

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I hadn't even though of it!" admitted Anne, as she dug through the clothing with something approaching desperation. "It's been such a very strange morning, I wonder if anyone thought to cook. If not, perhaps we should make something. I might not be prepared to cook, but I can certainly chop fruit and pour milk and tea."

She finally pulled out a rather flimsy looking brassiere that she thought might be adequate, and tucked it away with the rest of the clothing they'd found.

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's true," Ray mumbled in agreement, still looking elsewhere. "I can make eggs or pancakes or whatever. That's not hard." Breakfast was probably the easiest meal to make.

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I'm certain that would be more than adequate," said Anne, wrapping the clothing into a neat bundle and standing up again. "If you'll excuse me a moment, I need to find a private spot to change my clothing. I'm certain I'll be much better company once I do."

[identity profile] the-real-ray.livejournal.com 2006-07-01 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sure, sure," Ray said quickly. "I'll wait for you in like...the kitchen." He really didn't want to deal with the jukebox just yet.
