[locked to Ariel]

Anne had certainly been kept busy in the wake of the giant waves, when a great number of people had visited the IPD office to learn just what had occured and determine what was to be done about those persons had been temporarily displaced. But as dedicated as she was to her duty, she did not hesitate to abandon her post when she heard that Ariel had been brough in to the clinic (and not only Ariel but others, though Ariel's name was the only one that stuck in her head.)

"Oh my goodness," she said, clutching at Ariel's hand as soon as she found her. "Oh Ariel, what's happened?"

Ariel was relieved to see Anne. If more than one dinosaur had somehow managed to escape from it's confines she could have been in danger.

She knew she must have looked a bit frightening (and frightened), so she forced a smile and held out her free arm. It was bandaged just above her wrist and almost to her elbow.

"There was a dinosaur," she said quietly. "Jim and I, we were just playing a game of Curling when it snuck inside the rink and came at us."

Anne gasped and clutched at her hand even tighter. "I'd heard that there had been an attack," she said, "but I'd assumed that it was because someone was foolish enough to have gone into their territory. Oh no, how could it possibly have gotten inside the rink? They aren't supposed to be anywhere near here at all? Are you all right? Is Jim all right?"

"I don't know," Ariel murmured, feeling too tired to theorize. "I'm all right. Jim...will be all right. The dinosaur bit his leg. Chris had to carry him here and there was blood all over..."

"Oh, that's awful," said Anne with genuine horror. "Oh, but how did they get out? They could be anywhere, Ariel! We don't know if it's even safe to go home. Oh, I'm so relieved that you're all right, Ariel; nothing else matters quite so much."

Ariel flushed a little and leaned in to hug Anne, but froze in place halfway there. "Oh no, where's Holly?" she asked in a rush.

"It's all right," Anne assured her quickly. "She came with me to the office, this morning. She isn't in there right this moment but I expect we'll find her in the kitchen begging for scraps, as always. She's quite spoiled rotten, but at least it means she's loved."

Ariel only nodded, rubbing at one of her eyes and trying not to cry all over again. "Our neighbors, though, everyone...we have to warn them, Anne. They should come inside, everyone should," she said, tugging Anne's hand to take her...somewhere. They should tell someone.

Anne looked back over her shoulder and saw more than one person bustling in and out of the IPD office. "I think that's taken care of," she said, for she couldn't imagine anything else could have caused that level of activity. "You need only to worry about taking care of yourself," she said. "Have they asked that you stay in the clinic, or are you free to go at any time? I'll promise anyone who asks that I'll take very good care of you."

[identity profile] sickof-swimming.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Ariel couldn't shake her worry, but she smiled for Anne. "Oh, I'm fine, it's just a few scratches. I had to get some stitches. I was imagining you with your sewing machine," she admitted.

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
That didn't really alleviate Anne's concern any, but at least she could see with her own eyes that Ariel was doing all right. "I think it would do a great deal more damage if I tried to stitch you up myself with my sewing machine," she said, smiling at the image, though there was little else to smile about. "Oh, this is all so terrible."

[identity profile] sickof-swimming.livejournal.com 2007-03-17 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"It'll be okay," Ariel said, trying to sound assuring, "just as soon as we make sure everyone else is. Come on." She insisted, tugging at Ariel's hand to try and lead her down the hallway.

Anne had every intention of returning to the IPD office, where she imagined she was needed more than ever now, but not yet. There was a time for professional duty, and there was a time for familial duty, and right now she needed her wife and her wife needed her.

"I'm coming," she said, and clutched at Ariel's hand.

Ariel slowed a little to match pace with Anne, hurrying toward the door. "As soon as we warn the Hamlet we can come back," she said.

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Anne knew that they ought to get someone else to do it, that it was surely very dangerous out there, but so very many people she loved dearly lived in the Hamlet, and Ariel was right, they needed to know.

"We might need to climb a tree," said Anne, and tore her own skirt sufficiently that she might do so. "If something comes upon us we shall have to climb very high, very quickly. You should stay here where it's safe, Ariel, and I can go to warn them."

[identity profile] sickof-swimming.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Ariel looked a little wide-eyed that Anne tore her skirt like that, but her expression soon turned to one of defiance. "I know how to climb a tree," she protested. "If we go together we'll be safer with the two of us."

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2007-03-19 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
"But your arm is hurt," said Anne, giving it another worried look. "Will you be able to climb a tree with your arm like that?"

[identity profile] sickof-swimming.livejournal.com 2007-03-20 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ariel nodded insistently. "It's only a little sore," she said. "I only needed a few stitches."

[identity profile] island-anne.livejournal.com 2007-03-20 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
That still sounded quite serious to Anne, but she understood the urgency and she truly believed that if she had to she could haul Ariel up a tree in time.

"All right," she said. "Let's go. We'll have to be quick and careful."
